Reflective essay 3

Clement jean François
Reflective essay 3
Student communication is important in the classroom and offers benefits to teachers and students. Chapter three of the Support learning with technology text, discusses the role of technology in communication and the overview of technology in the classroom. I believe that the text explains communication thoroughly, because it describes communication as true social interaction. As a student, I experienced effective communication in most of my classes based on the interactive assignments and projects that teachers and professors had planned.  The assignments and projects were geared towards collaborating and cooperating to reach a common goal. Through effective communication, students will develop communication skills and team building skills while learning from one another. I believe that collaborate communication challenges students to express and accept ideas while following given rubrics to decide their action. Teachers benefit by observing and taking notes based on how effective the assignment is and if students are engaged to collectively contribute to the assignment.
The role of technology in communication has transformed the use of communication in the classroom by incorporating technology with projects and assignments. Because of the use of technology, assignments and group projects have challenged students to collaborate while using technology. Technology in communication can benefit students if it is promoted properly by the teacher. Mr. Finley’s is a great example of how technology supports the basic patterns of communication. For instance, the example on page p64 of the Support learning with technology text, explains Mr. Finley’s approach of the use of technology and the expected outcomes on projects. Mr. Finley created a social studies project through the use of technology that required students to work in groups. The group project supported social interaction, which is fundamental in engaging students. Lessons on how to communicate effectively, group work and problem solving is what will provide students. I believe that the idea of the project was successful based on the organized lesson that Mr. Finely designed. The organization of the lesson also included a scaffold that students could follow along to check their progress. The lesson was designed to include the basic patterns of communication as well as the use of technology. I believe that the outcome of the lesson would be a success, because of organization of the lesson and the inclusion of social interaction through technology.
