Reflective essay 7
The art of storytelling has existed for many centuries
and has transformed into various forms of art.
Storytelling is diverse and can be used in the classroom in many ways.
There are many forms of story telling such as oral storytelling, muppet
storytelling, dance storytelling and digital storytelling. The definition of
storytelling is defined in many definitions, however all definitions are
related to art and multimedia. Although I agree with the article The
Educational Uses of Digital Storytelling, effectivenes of digital
storytelling, I do not agree with its definition. I believe that digital story
telling can adopt a single definition based on the balance of art and
multimedia. My definition of digital storytelling is defined as art
through technology. Understanding the meaning of digital storytelling will help
people create new ideas to form stories that have artistic form that can reach
different types of audiences. I also believe that the purpose of digital story telling is to
integrate basic concepts of a lesson through technology.
The
role of technology has played a critical role in education by allowing teachers
and students to explore creative ways of expressing and explaining information
in the simplest form. The diversity in technology is what makes sources of
multimedia, such as digital storytelling, fun and attractive in the classroom.
With digital storytelling, information is brought to life based the elements of
audio, images and video. The effect of digital storytelling is constructive and
has a big impact in the classroom, because it enhances the form of instruction
for the teacher and engages students.
Digital
storytelling is effective for students, because students are able to create
their own story through technology. Digital storytelling will help students
grasp key concepts, based on the various multimedia tools that are involved with
digital storytelling. Digital story telling helps students form a foundation in
media literacy which will benefit them outside the classroom. I believe that
the articles on digital storytelling had good explanations on the effect and of
digital storytelling. I liked the fact that the article focused on the
implications of digital storytelling in the classroom and howit attracts
students to participate. With Digital storytelling, students can learn
principles of class lessons and the use of multimedia technology.

Reflective essay 6
My
definition of student production, is based on fundamental aspects of education
that involve students engaging in specific task, in which students cultivate
creativity, teamwork, critical thinking and responsibility. “Through
production, students learn new and diverse tools that can provide opportunities
of learning new concepts and material” (Egbert, 190). What I like about chapter
seven in the Supporting Learning with Technology text, is that it introduces
the concept of production not only as tangible outcomes, but as impetus such as
the use of words that help explore the diversity and versatility of production.
“The variety of task that are of the production process makes it easier to
integrate students with different abilities” (Egbert, 185). The Scenario of
chapter seven, describes a teacher instructing a media literacy unit that is delivered
through the support of student production. The scenario describes the benefits and
its good content for students, such as knowing how and when to use technology,
visualizing and decision making. (Egbert, 185).
The
opportunity of choosing methods of how a project is conducted engages students,
because it allows students to have control of expressing their ideas. Students
are motivated when working on projects that refer to their method of learning. I
believe that student production should be mandatory for all grade levels;
because students can exercise teamwork by helping one another explore the use
of certain tools of technology. Through student production, students can teach
their classmates, which makes it not only easier on the teacher, but the
teacher will have time to evaluate students and examine the effectiveness of
student production in the classroom.
Though
the role of student production is diverse and versatile, student production
requires specific guidelines that organizes and structures how students should
be graded. I agree with the text and its explanation of the importance of
guidelines; however despite group work students should be responsible for their
own summaries and part in completing the project. In Ms Okeefe’s It 3210 class
students, are responsible for their own weekly reflections which relate to the
assigned projects and assignments. In conclusion, Student production is
effective when specific guidelines are applied.
